Introduction

Boats are big part of my life. I have been a sailor since age ten. My first real boat was a spiffy red and white AMC 14' Sunfish. I sailed her off Jamestown (across the bay from Newport, Rhode Island) in Narragansett Bay (USA). In my late teens, I crewed for several years as the navigator on an Erickson 28' sailboat which raced in Narragansett Bay and offshore. This craft won the NBYA C-Class championship for the year 1977.

However, I think it was my years on the Sunfish that made me the sailor I am today... I used to take her around the bay, out to Rose Island, or along the southern coast of beautiful Jamestown. Since I had a girlfriend who didn't like to get wet... I learned how to control the craft quite carefully to keep my passenger happy.

I've owned and rebuilt several boats over the years, some better than others... some bigger, some smaller. Basically, I just love boats. However, one problem with boats is there seems to be no one boat that perfectly handles all situations and desired usages well.

So you may find yourself thinking of having a different boat than the one you currently own, lease, or just go for a ride on - quite often. Untreated, this thinking can lead to the onset of NOD (Nautically Obsessed Disorder)... a life long preoccupation with boats usually manifesting itself in the ownership of one or more craft.

I am usually busy with some boating project... ( Just click on the NAV BAR at top to learn more.)
